red ticks in germany?
every once and a while, i see little bright red tick-like bugs crawling on the ground (outside). why i think its a tick is because one latched on to me a couple months ago. i got it out the same day (it was on my shin), but the itch is still there. and its much larger than a mosquito bite. whats wrong?
Go out to Hohne ranges on a warm sunny day and look at the grass. Or look at the warm streets in town. Or the rocky sides of the Rhine if you go expecting to hear the siren calling boatmen to their deaths at the Lorelei.
You'll see hundreds of them.....red mites. Maybe a few boatmen too.
Looks like you're sensitive to those mites. Most people just don't notice much.
Any anti-histamine will sort it but be careful of the drowsiness that most of them can cause.
Strong ones like Piriton can cause anaphylactic reactions too...drop like a stone in severe cases...out with the fairies for ten minutes.
Quite rare, but it happens, so if you take something you haven't taken before just stay safe until you know you're OK with it.
No good taking one just before setting off on a cycling trip to town on a busy day.

The Lorelei....the most treasured place of German folklore and a treasure to visit and see the Lorelei Rock and hoping to hear the wailing of the waters in the crevices beneath it, that boatmen of legend in tales of long long ago believed were mermaids calling to them.
The boatman steers close to his calling mermaid and is overcome by the swirling waters around the rock.
Called to a drowning death by the sweet sound of a lady of the waters ...the lovely Lorelei who drowned herself through love unreturned... and what boatman wouldn't respond to so sweet a call from one so fair...and so the Legend of Lorelei remains, a treasure of history and respected in song and verse and story book for many years

The Lorelei rock...a very good place to visit. And the song, Die Lorelei. Sehr gud....but this guy doesn't understand the sadness in the song.

Well, I hope it got your mind off bites for a while.....some anti-histamine cream and tablets will do the trick.
And that siren call of Lorelei is the sound of the water swirling through the crevices and gurgling and burping and whistling it's way to the other side of the rock....now gone through modern interference with the rock.
It's got a road there now......
Poor innocent boatman...drowned for nothing but a dream.
