East Queen Well

East Queen Well
Which is the more badass/hard core/dangerous city: London or New York City (please provide reasons as well)?

There is apparently a large knife culture in London, with a lot of public stabbings. This seems to be especially prevalent in East London, the borough of Tower Hamlets. Then you saw what happened recently at Upton Park (in London as well) against Millwall.

New York City has its fair share of crime and violence as any other big city, but the South Bronx and parts of Queens are more dangerous here. Brooklyn and Manhattan (besides East Harlem) are very safe. Staten Island is ok, not too bad; just very shabby and dirty.

I've only visited London a few times, and I've never been to East London - due to its reputation, mostly. I agree with LJ above - most Western European cities have very low crime rates, when compared to the States. Eastern Europe can be dangerous, but only due to organized crime presence. It's still better than here.

There was just recently a stabbing here in Harlem, or so I heard on New York 1 ,,, and I don't know where you got the impression that Queens is unsafe, in comparison to Brooklyn, but I would say the complete opposite. I have lived in Brooklyn most of my life, and spent one year in Queens and I currently work there. Aside from Jamaica, Queens is extremely safe - there may be some questionable areas, like parts of Woodside or Corona, but that's it, All of eastern Brooklyn, however, is very unsafe - most of Bed-Stuy, Crown Heights, East Flatbush, Bushwick and East New York is where the majority of crimes in the borough occur. There are also some areas of eastern Williamsburg that are seriously screwed up - I have friends who work for FedEx and other delivery companies and will purposely change their location.

And Staten Island isn't shabby or dirty! They have ONE area that's considered the "ghetto" - the majority of the borough is made up upper-middle and middle-class Jews and Italians.
