HELP! What to wear to a semi-formal wedding?
My boyfriend invited me to a semi-formal evening Mariott wedding. Is it okay to wear a royal blue satin dress with a black bow? The bridemaids will be wearing light blue. The dress is from Forever 21 and a little lower than mid-thigh. What color shoes? Black? Also, what do you say to a bride and groom that you're meeting for the first time? Should I bring a gift? Thanks so much for your help!
Royal blue - lovely. Satin - suitably formal. Just make sure the dress isn't too tight/short/low-cut - you don't want to be showing a lot of skin. If you aren't sure, ask your mom - moms usually don't let their daughters go out looking trampy 
If it were me, I would do a metallic shoe (silver, gold, or bronze) with a blue dress, plus coordinating jewelry. But since the dress has black trim, you could certainly be safe with a black shoe.
Your boyfriend should be taking a gift - ask him if you can go in together on one, or if he'll put your name on the card.
A good thing to say to the bride and groom is "Congratulations! Your wedding is beautiful. Thank you so much for inviting me." Honestly, you probably won't get more than about 60 seconds of one-on-one time with the couple, since they'll have to greet all of their guests.
Oh man, krissy has a lot of "rules." Since the bridesmaids are wearing blue, no one else is allowed to wear any shade of blue? Come on - that's not even reasonable. Don't wear heels lighter than your hemline? I mean, have you seen women wearing silver or nude heels - they make your legs go on for days! And every other woman in a black cocktail dress is wearing some killer heels in red, pink, cobalt, teal, lime... and it looks chic as hell. In other words, in fashion, you make your own rules. Make sure the FIT of the dress is appropriate, wear shoes and a color that you think look awesome, and you're good to go.
