Silk Reflections
Silk Road, an attractive and mysterious tourist route now was actually a trade route linking Asia and Europe with 2,000-year-old age. It began from the city of Xi'an, capital of northwest China Shaanxi Province, and ended in Europe via south and central Asia countries. It was 7,000 kilometers long, more than half of which is in China.
The ancient Silk Road has demonstrated a lasting charm through the centuries. There are countless historic sites and cultural relics which exist along the Silk Road in China. The best known is in Xi'an, where the life-sized Terra-cotta Warriors and Horses, were excavated from sites near the tomb of Emperor Qin Shi Huang, known as the eighth wonder of the world.
When you go further along the northern path of the Silk Road, visit more exotic places including Urumqi, Kashgar, Turpan and Dunhuang, you will surely have an absolute unforgettable journey.
Urumqi: The capital of Xinjiang Autonomous Region and also name the most 'inland' city in the world. Take excursion to Tianchi, or "Lake of Heaven", about 30 miles southeast of Urumqi, at an elevation of 6,435 feet above sea level. It is a beautiful highland lake, flanked by rugged pines and cypresses, and with clear waters that reflect the surrounding mountains. Take a cruise on the lake, enjoy the fascinating scenery and experience the colorful customs of Uighur people- one of the most mysterious ethnic group in China.
Kashgar: Most visitors head to Kashgar with the Sunday Bazaars in mind. Stroll around the market at the top of the world in this mysterious city. The Sunday market maintains much of the old Silk Road spirit, with people of many different nationalities selling everything from spice and wool to livestock and silver knives. There are few places now in the world where visitors can actively take part in traditions that stretch back over thousands of years. Just like the western adventures who came before us, visitors today are no less amazed by all that Kashgar has to offer.
Turpan: The place where Marco Polo first encountered spaghetti, an idea he took home to Italy. Besides its well-known grape yard, one of the most impressive things for you to see is the Jiaohe ruins which is the largest and best preserved ancient city built from compressed earth anywhere in the world. About 10 kilometers west of Turpan County, Jiaohe was a strategically important city on the ancient Silk Road that travelers must pass through. In the ruin, there are 1389 residential house ruins, 53 Buddhism temples, 316 ancient wells and 34 alleys. The town was uniquely arranged, containing an above part and an underground part.
Dunhuang: A small city in Gansu Province is located near the crossroads of the ancient Silk Road. It is made famous largely by the Buddhist Grottoes, known as the Mogao Grottoes, which are one of the World's most important sites of ancient Buddhist culture. The famed Mogao Grottoes are known as the "Oriental Pearl of Art". Many visitors find themselves deeply touched by the immortal works of art.
